Welcome to the June edition of the Bradworthy Newsletter.
This month we have been joined by Football Correspondent Neil Nixon and Golfing Correspondent Norman Williamson. Thank you very much to both of them.
The advertisers who sponsor the Newsletter are going to be asked to pay this month as the Carnival royalty has to be 'kitted out'. So thank you to them, particularly Roger Andrews who seems to keep 'Tony's Tipper Truck' going single handed!
Some years ago my wife and I were invited to dinner by a resident of the Square. As our host did not have a dining table we eat our meal on trays with bean bag cushions. Seeing how practical they were (but being unwilling to buy new) my wife has been looking for one, on and off, in charity shops ever since. No more; a couple of weeks ago she saw one on the Community Stall for £1.50 and would like to thank the stall organisers for their useful local service. She also bought an excellent chocolate cake, baked that morning! Editor.
Jim Beatson would like to thank all those kind people who enquired after him and sent 'Get Well' messages during his recent stay in hospital. Greatly appreciated.
Bradworthy Pre-School
Bradworthy Pre-School would like to thank all those who supported the children's annual sponsored walk and bucket collection. The children had a great time; some of the money raised is going towards a large covered sandpit and toys that will give them much pleasure in the future.

Parish Council News
The Parish Council met on Friday May 28th in the Methodist Sunday School Room. This was the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council that saw Councillor Bill Jarvis re-elected Chairman and Mrs Margaret Coles re-elected Vice-Chairman.
At the meeting the Council noted that Councillor Jane Addy and Mr Matthew Cann had cleaned up outside the school and thanked them for their community spirit.
The disappearance of three chains from the War Memorial has been followed by the destruction of a recently planted tree in Tucker's Park. The tree was planted in memory of Stan Jennings. The Council deplore these actions and asks the community to be vigilant and report any similar incidents as they happen or immediately they are noticed. Please pass on any information either to a member of the Council or to the local Police Officer WPC Mandy Brown on 08452 777444. Any information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
To help combat crime in and around the village please join the Neighbourhood Watch group by contacting Councillor Trevor Sillifant on 01409 241375.
There have been reports of dogs being let off leads on Blakey's Footpath (by the Cemetery) despite there being clear 'on leads' signs displayed. Being an unfenced path, once off leads the dogs run over several fields. Dog owners are asked to control their dogs
The Communitv Wood
Over the last month the owners of the community wood have mowed the rides and considerably improved the car parking. This has greatly improved the accessibility of this most useful local resource. The new roadsigns are now 'in stock' and hopefully will be erected over the next few days. For more information phone the owners on 01288 331132 or e-mail treewarden@bradworthy.co.uk.
Twinning Trip to Audrieu 2004
The Twinning group left the Square on Saturday 29th May at 2.OOam. After a coach trip to Portsmouth we crossed the Channel and landed in France at Le Havre. We made the short coach trip to Audrieu to meet up with our Twinning Families.
After a meal we had a skittles match in their Village Hall using the alley made by Twinning President Alan Balsdon and presented to Audrieu some years ago.
On the Sunday we took a trip by coach to see Omaha Beach and the American military Cemetery situated on the top of the hill climbed by so many on 6th June 1944. When we returned to the village we were entertained to dinner and a disco in the Village Hall.
On Monday morning we attended a ceremony of a minute of silence, at the memorial to ,the Dorset Regiment, lead by Mayor Jean-Louis Le Boutillier to mark the villager's thanks for their liberation in 1944. We then walked to the Maire (village council meeting room) to witness a commemorative plaque to Bob Tweddle (former Bradworthy Twinning Chairman) being hung on the wall.
The French Twinning Chairman, Philippe Dissez then made a speech and presented our Chairman, Shaun Heard with a platter as a souvenir of our visit.
After lunch with our French counterpart families we drove to Cherbourg for the return ferry to Portsmouth:
The weekend was a great success and we look forward to welcoming Audrieu next year. Many thanks to Shaun Heard for organising the trip.

Golf Tournament
On 7th April a Golf Tournament was held to commemorate the life of Alan Cann.
About eighty people took part. The field was divided into two teams, one captained by Spencer Cann (Alan's son) and the other by Derek Cann (Alan's Brother).
A Grand Draw took place in the evening with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. Over £1000.00 was raised.
The total raised was £2520.00. A cheque for that sum was presented to the local organiser of Cancer Research of Great Britain on Wednesday evening 19th May, in the Social Club.
On Friday 14th a group of 12 golfers went to Chateau Desormes, near St Malo, France. Peter Lewin organised the trip and Paul Furse's form shone throughout the weekend.
Bradworthy Youth FC
This year has been the busiest ever with over 70 children taking part in Saturday morning training. There have been league matches each Sunday. Robin Lewis and Mike Furber have been training the under 8s while Jonny Furse, Kevin Nancekivell and Nigel Moulder have bought the under 10s on well this season.
Neil Nixon and Richard Radmore took last years under 10s into this year's under 11 Kingsley League that won the cup with a squad of 10!
Richard Radmore and Clare Balsdon introduced a girl's under 14 team who played a number of friendlies this year.
There will be an end of season presentation evening at the Big Sheep on 18th June.
Bradworthy 3rd Team
Numerous changes faced new manager Richard Hudson as he took over the 3rd team at the start of this season, with the majority of last year's squad moving into the second team, moving away or simply retiring! This made way for a number of youngsters to make their debut in men's football. A few players came and went, but the squad basically held together despite losing more often than winning and, ultimately, ending up bottom of the Kingsley League. Form in the cup, however, gave the team a chance of glory as it found itself in the Subsidiary Cup Final against Black Torrington. Player Manager 'Ruddy' was unavailable owing to 'injury', making way for some members of the other Bradworthy squads to bolster the senior citizens and youngsters of the third team. Despite battling hard, the team was eventually defeated 2-0; meaning members of last seasons third team squad had another Subsidiary Cup runners-up medal to add to their collection! The youngsters that joined the squad this season all performed exceptionally well, developing skills and strength as the season progressed. The prospects for the third team look rosy, and will certainly experience greater success during the season ahead.
