Welcome to the April edition of the Bradworthy Newsletter.
I heard on the news this week that parts of Wales can no longer receive analogue television signals. I am grateful, therefore, to Mr Mark Winters for providing an insert to this month's Newsletter titled Digital Switchover. If your copy does not have one, and you would like one, please do not hesitate to ask me.
Please hand articles for May in at the Social Club or send items for inclusion by e-mail to newslettergbradworthy.co. or 'phone/fax 241147.

Bradworthy Parish Council
In answer to comments printed in the February and the March issues of the Bradworthy News.
Firstly John Crowley fevently criticised the Bradworthy Parish Plan describing it as an obscene publication.
He may be interested to know that all parishes were offered the chance by the Countryside Agency to produce a plan which would identify the needs of the community and help the agency to develop the best possible solutions for enabling rural communities.
If successful they were awarded a ring fenced grant to fully finance the scheme. Bradworthy was successful in its application and was awarded the grant.
The original Parish questionnaire was compiled, delivered and later collected by hand. The results of the survey were professionally audited by the Devon County Council and the plan was drawn up from the information gathered from this. It was then printed and again delivered to the parishioners by the members of the council. The size and use of colour in the plan was decided by a sub committee and then approved by the full Parish Council who understood and agreed with the overwhelming evidence of the publishers that a well produced quality magazine or brochure is kept longer and re-read while colourless pages of type are often cast to one side or thrown away unread.
Because of the hard work by each and every councillor and other members of the community giving their time and effort for free our Parish Plan, which is being used as a role model for other parishes, came in under budget therefore leaving money in the kitty for others. It cost Bradworthy Parishioners nothing.
In view of his concern absolutely horrified regarding the cost of this project he would have done better to pass his copy on or return it to the parish council rather than throw it in the bin!
Sue lander expressed concern about the trust fund being offered to Bradworthy by West Coast Energy.
She may be interested to know that a community benefit was discussed on the 2nd and 3rd November 2001 at the public meeting hosted by West Coast Energy in the Memorial Hall.
Once the turbines were approved by the government the power company were obliged to create a community trust. In fact West Coast Energy's first proposal for a trust was rejected by the Charity commission and they have now proposed a holding trust which is at present in discussion.
Rather than suggest that the Parish Council who make decisions behind closed doors without informing anyone were acting in a somewhat irregular, clandestine way Ms Lander would be better informed if she were to attend the P .C meetings (held on the last Friday of every month) where she and anyone else who wishes, is more than welcome to express their views in the public session part of the meeting. After all, the council is elected by the community to represent the views of the community.
She also states that: 'I have scanned the glossy Bradworthy Plan and can find no mention of this financial contribution'. If she reads the section on Renewable Energy in her Parish Plan she will notice that when the plan was drawn up the wind turbines were being opposed at the planning stage and were not yet a matter fact. Finally, following the Editor's comments regarding the Parish Plan in the February issue of the Bradworthy News in which he points out that The Bradworthy news is an initiative of the Carnival Committee, not the Parish Council and the cost of production is paid for by the sponsorship of our advertisers.
The Parish Plan was in fact acknowledging the importance of the Bradworthy News as a vehicle for the community to inform and be informed. It was certainly not suggesting that the Parish Council was responsible for its publication. I think we are all grateful to any individual or organisation who has taken on this time consuming task since it was first produced in 1982 by Graham Cole followed by Richard Loder, Paul Clarke, Phil Mayhall, Eric Mitchell and the current editor.

The Easter message of hope and new life seems to fit well with the spring season. Thanks to all who supported the services over Lent and Easter. The Bishop of Crediton is coming to this area on Thursday 26th May at 7.30pm, possibly either Bradworthy or Sutcombe. If anyone wishes to consider being confirmed at that service please give me a ring. Don't worry you won't be alone. We are hoping that Ian Downing will soon be able to begin the complete rewiring of the church. The condition of the wiring has been suspect for some time now and we are taking the opportunity to improve the system, including better outside lighting to guide people through the churchyard more safely.
In the past four years or so around fifty members of the congregation have either passed on or moved from the area. Losing so many lovely people has been sad and difficult. In recent weeks we have welcomed some new members to the congregation and there is room for many more. No previous experience necessary, come just as you are.

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor
After reading Mr Crowley's write up in the March Newsletter about the Parish Plan, I felt I needed to write.
Did I miss the pages in the Parish Plan about our local School that has stood for over 100 years in the same spot, because I couldn't see it. I know I should wear my glasses more but even with my glasses on I still couldn't find it.
Perhaps whoever wrote the Parish Plan didn't realise we had a school???
Untidy parking in the square: Is the council going to employ someone to go round and make sure we have all parked straight? Lorries have parked in the square for years. Do people park on the corner by the pub garden because of all the lorries in the square???
