Welcome to the June edition of the Bradworthy Newsletter.
Many thanks this month to Neil Nixon for kindly writing an article about the golf trip to France. On 20th May the Football Club held their end of season dinner at the Durrant House Hotel, Northam. I hope next month to be able to include a round up of the football season.
On 6th May Zoe May Gilhespy was born. Many congratulations to parents Sarah and Jordan. Sadly, on 17th May, Rodney Stevens died following a long battle with illness. Val and family would like to thank everyone for their kind words of sympathy, cards and flowers. Rodney was a great friend of the village news over the years and very encouraging at the launch of the Newsletter.
Thank you to Dave Pepworth for his article about Turbine Noise. It raised interesting questions about the generating capacity of the Turbines that I am checking with EnergieKontor Ltd. Once I have the data I will be able to publish the article and their answer. In the meantime, if anyone has any input about noise nuisance, Mr Pepworth would be very pleased to hear from them.
I look forward to July's articles. Please, therefore, hand them in at the Social Club or send items for inclusion by e-mail to newsletter@bradworthy.co.uk or 'phone/fax 241147.

The Sunday School Anniversary 15th May
A good number of people in attendance at both the morning and evening services were treated to some enthusiastic singing and a humorous sketch presented by the children. The message that came across was that trying to patch up our lives will ultimately fail and what we really need is to be made new. That is possible if we will allow the life and love of God into our lives through Jesus. The recently formed Worship Group who hope to introduce more modern livelier types of worship from time to time, led the worship during the evening. They will next be leading the worship on the morning of 19th June.

Devon in Touch Roadshow Bus
The bus will return to Bradworthy on Wednesday 7th September with its usual computer set up together with officers from TDC who can deal with a variety of subjects and discuss district matters face to face with parishioners.
Note from the Editor
Following an item that arose at last month's Parish Council meeting re the Trust Fund set up by EnergieKontor Ltd to hold the lump sum payment of £22,000.00. The Newsletter now has fuller documentation on this matter and will be pleased to provide copies on request. Please 'phone 01409 241147 for more details.
Apology
In last Month's Newsletter Councillor Sillifant was wrongly described as Deputy Leader of Torridge District Council. Councillor Sillifant would like it to be known that he is, in fact, Vice Chairman. The Newsletter accepts that it was wrongly informed in this matter and apologises to Councillor Sillifant for this error. I am advised that, to prevent such errors occurring in the future, I should only take my briefing on Council matters from the Clerk or from the Chairman and not from individual members of the Council.

Recreational Youth Provision
Through the Parish Council Mrs Sandra Hayes and Mrs Jo Nancekivell are trying to re-establish some recreational Youth Provision in the village. There is now an Area Youth Worker in post, Mr Mike St John Cooper. It is intended to hold a meeting soon in order to take the project forward. Anyone interested in helping or having any ideas would be most welcome. Please contact Mrs Nancekivell on 241262 for information.
Pre-School
As it is near to the end of their financial year, the Pre-School would very much like to thank everyone who has supported their fundraisers over the last year. Most particularly they would like to thank Patsy of the Bradworthy Inn who generously invites them to do a collection at the firework display, holds a Christmas draw and makes the kitchen facilities available for the New Year Brunch. They would like to thank John and Julia Barker and Teresa Cheel for their work hosting and preparing questions for the Wine and Wisdoms. Whilst this list is by no means exhaustive, they would also like to thank Roy for organising the Whiskey Thieves who provided another good night out and raised much needed funds.
Bradworthy Parish Council
Election
At the Annual Parish Council meeting, Councillor Mrs Margaret Coles was elected Chairman and Councillor Mrs Daphne Nicholls was elected Vice Chairman.
Youth Work in Devon
Councillors Mrs Sandra Hayes and Mrs Jo Nancekivell having attended a meeting in Holsworthy about encouraging and increasing youth activities in Bradworthy are arranging a meeting of youth organisations and others interested to get information on our needs. Please watch for poster details, meanwhile contact them for information.
Trees
Trees forming Berridon Avenue are beginning to show signs of old age or are a danger to road users. Several have already been removed. Local landowners are to consider a replanting programme.
Flowerbeds
Mr Robert Lewis was thanked for repairing the stone surrounds.
Signposts and Road Markings
The Parish Council is sharing the cost of a replacement sign at Upcott Cross, Kilkhampton with Kilkhampton Parish Council. This will again direct travellers to Bradworthy by the quickest route from the A39 at Taylors Cross. Some time ago DCC Highways agreed to alter the priority at Bradworthy Mill. This road marking has not been done; DCC will be reminded of the need for action.
Insurances
After many years with the same company the Council has changed its Insurers to provide increased cover at a reduced premium.
12 Tee Off in France
The Bradworthy golfers made their annual pilgrimage to France on Friday 13th May, returning the following Tuesday. Weather forecasts weren't good, so wet weather gear was packed by all (except Pete Lewin, of course, who wears shorts even if its snowing!). The hotel, located near Brest, was not quite up to par, but the golf course that accompanied it was excellent - and what's more, the sun shone every day! Overall champion for the three full days of golf was Richard Greenhalgh, with Pete Lewin a close second and John Barker third. The first round of golf was probably the slowest ever recorded, taking more than six hours, stuck behind three French people in a competition who, clearly, had never played golf before. Thank goodness Norman wasn't there or the Entente Cordiale would be in tatters! There was a competition between the room pairs on the second morning which, owing to everyone's excellent attempts at trying the local beers, wines and spirits the night before, was a quiet affair with very little sparkling golf played. By the afternoon round, however, we were out on the championship course and some impressive scores were returned. The trip was rounded off with a meal in the local town followed by several drinks in several bars. If it weren't for Paul Furse, who kindly agreed to stay off the drink and drive us back to the hotel, we'd probably still be there!
The Bradworthy 12 were: Malc Wright, Michael Jennings, Richard Graham, Mark Winters, John Barker, Neil Nixon, Roger Dorrington, Martin Ince, Paul Furse, Darren Jennings, Richard Greenhalgh, and Pete Lewin.
A big thank you to Pete for organising the trip, and to John Barker and Martin Ince for providing the transport.

The Church rewiring work has now begun. For about two weeks the Church will be filled with scaffolding to comply with current Health and Safety legislation. Normal services during this period should be unaffected.
Church Disorganising
Following the successful installation of the new Church organ two years ago, last week the old organ was removed. The work was carried out by a local contractor supervised and assisted by Senior Church Warden, Richard Boughton. It took all of the first morning just to remove all of the hundreds of pipes. The organ itself, installed nearly a hundred years ago, was very soundly constructed but riddled with woodworm. The removal work took two days in all and has created a, very useful, large open space at the West end of the Church.
